Amy Oates began exploring how people gather and pass through public space while studying studio art at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Extensive travels allowed her to continue observing crowds all across the globe.

Oates integrated cut-paper, sculptural installations into her art practice in 2010. Her cut-paper work has been included in gallery exhibitions throughout the United States, and she has completed permanent, site-specific commissions for private and corporate spaces in California, Oregon, and Florida.

Contributing to and engaging with communities is an integral part of Oates’ artistic practice. She has taught afterschool art in Texas and Seattle and has worked as a museum educator in San Francisco, CA to champion making creative experiences accessible for all.
