Arminée Chahbazian
Arminée Chahbazian invests herself in deep observations of the natural world, and creates work that evokes a quiet contemplation of our place in it. She has been engaged in this practice for the past 40 years after earning her MFA from Yale University, and her BA from Scripps College. Born and raised in Colorado, she has lived in the woods of Northern California for three decades - this follows influential years living and working in rural France and along the east coast.
Arminée's work has been included in numerous exhibitions along both coasts of the US, as well as Europe; most recent shows have been focused in the San Francisco Bay area in such venues as the di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art, Seager Gray Gallery, Cornerstone Sonoma, the Marin Art & Garden Center, and the Ucross Foundation in Wyoming. Los Angeles area venues include the Brand Art Center and Lois Lambert Gallery. She is an active member of EcoArtSpace and her widely ranging work is added regularly to many private collections. A recently commissioned work is featured in the main lobby of the UCSF Bayfront Medical Building in San Francisco.
Her work takes many forms; from large-scale works on paper, to mixed media and stone sculpture, oil painting and conceptual time-based projects. Her early focus on sculptural forms and materials greatly informs her process in developing experiential, spatial qualities in her 2D work. None of it would take its form without her commitment to a life surrounded by native flora and fauna, amidst the four elements - she lives her work.
