Catherine Ruane grew up near the Salton Sea in the Imperial Valley where the Colorado river water irrigates the California desert farms growing lettuce, tomatoes, alfalfa and sugar beets. She is a graduate of Otis Institute of Art in LA where she received her Master of Fine Arts Degree. In addition, she earned an MFA in fine art printmaking at San Diego State University, and studied art for a year in Florence, Italy at Santa Reparata International School of Fine Art. She currently has a working studio in Morongo Valley, where the artist lives.

The artist has an extensive exhibition record including shows in Frosinone, and Naples, Italy, Stockholm, Sweden, Kyoto, Japan, as well as the Museum of Art and History, Lancaster, San Luis Obispo Museum, Oceanside Art Museum, San Diego Fine Arts Museum, San Diego Art Institute, George Billis Gallery, Launch Gallery, Post Gallery, and Coagula Gallery which are all in CA.
