Christina Shurts

Painting of a bouquet of sunflowers, daisies, and assorted flowers with green leaves in a vessel.

Christina Shurts is an artist and educator based on the Pacific Coast. Raised within a bicoastal lineage of filmmakers, writers, painters and public muralists, she was taught from a modest age that creativity is the ultimate tool for navigating life's transformations. Her work is a refined evolution of this inherited language—merging the cinematic storytelling of her family with a rigorous academic background.

Shurts has exhibited both internationally and nationally and built mosaic public art projects with a community engagement component. Solo exhibitions at Galleri Oxholm, Denmark, Rare Gallery, NY, Lawrence Asher Gallery, LA. Group exhibition highlights include Saatchi Gallery, London, Pacific Design Center, LA, Rema Hort Mann Art Foundation. Museum exhibitions include Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design, University Art Museum, and the Torrance Art Museum. Art fairs include Art Copenhagen, Scope, NY, Scope Miami, QuiPo Art Fair, Mexico City, Mexico and Startup Art Fair, LA.

Shurts is a lecturer at Long Beach City College and Mount San Antonio College. She earned her M.F.A., 2010, Drawing & Painting with Distinction of Creative Activity from California State University, Long Beach and University California, Irvine, B.F.A., 2000. She lives and works in Rancho Palos Verdes, where the constant shift of Pacific light serves as her own modern-day Hippocrene spring.
