Demetri Broxton

Demetri Broxton is an Oakland-based artist and arts administrator whose mixed-media practice explores ancestry, spirituality, and cultural memory through materials such as beads, cowrie shells, and textiles. His work is held in the collections of the de Young Museum, Monterey Museum of Art, Norton Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery.

Broxton is the Executive Director of Root Division, a San Francisco nonprofit dedicated to supporting emerging artists through exhibitions, education, and professional development. Alongside his administrative leadership, he maintains an active studio practice and works as an independent curator. His recent curatorial project, Pushing Boundaries at the Palo Alto Art Center, highlighted artists who expand and challenge conventional approaches to identity, materiality, and form.
