Donald Arrodondo

Artist Bio Midnight Altar is the collective work of a San Francisco–based mixed media artist, Donald Arrodondo, whose work explores surreal and macabre imagery through bold color, fluid line work, and layered materials. Drawing from a background in animation, special effects, and sculpture studied at the Academy of Art University, the work blends technical craft with dark, symbolic narratives centered on the human form.

Working across screen printing, painting, drawing, and wood-based surfaces, Arrodondo incorporates both traditional and experimental techniques to create pieces that balance graphic structure with organic movement. The natural textures of the wood are selected for the physicality of the materials, which play an integral role in each composition.

Since 2013, Arrodondo has worked in the professional screen printing industry, bringing a deep understanding of printing processes, layering, and surface into his fine art practice. His work has been exhibited in galleries and group shows throughout San Francisco, reflecting a continued engagement with the city’s vibrant contemporary art community.
