Abstract painting with blue and gray geometric shapes arranged in a pattern resembling stacked arches or waves.

Fernando Carnauba is a self-taught painter from Brazil and has been painting for three years. With a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from Columbia University, Carnauba currently teaches at Stanford University on the subjects of Brazilian Education, Mathematics Education, and Quantitative Methods in Education.

Says the artist, “my creative process is a humble search for the beauty of mathematical ideas as lived experiences. I believe we don’t need to understand every single detail in mathematics to appreciate its power and beauty. With my artwork, I intend to invite viewers to intuitively experience the rhythms, patterns, and possibilities inherent in mathematical thought.”
