Justine Martinez

Abstract watercolor painting of a woman's face with closed eyes, dark hair, surrounded by green and yellow tones with splashes and drips.

Artist Bio Justine’s work emerges from a life steeped in stories and a sensitivity to the emotional and spiritual nuances of human experience. From early childhood, she was drawn to faces and figures, compelled by a hunger to understand what lay beneath the surface.

With degrees in Psychology and Spiritual Formation, she spent decades as a spiritual guide and mentor before a painting practice sparked a midlife renewal. Her abstracted figurative paintings explore the tension between control and surrender, inviting others to reconnect with what is real, soulful, and alive.

Working from her San Francisco home studio, Justine begins each piece with raw emotion, initially using fluid mediums to access an unconscious intuition. Then she builds with intention, moving toward refined mark making with oil, acrylic, or line tools, contributing concrete storytelling elements and symbols while keeping the intuitive foundation central.
