LIZ GARVEY

Elizabeth K. Garvey is the Co-Founder and Director of Garvey|Simon, NYC.

Liz received a B.A. in Art History from Indiana University, Bloomington (’88) and then moved to New York City in 1989 to attend Hunter College in Manhattan to pursue a master's degree in art history and took a position with Schmidt-Bingham Gallery where she eventually became co-director (1989-1998).  In 1999 Liz started EKG Art Advisory, an art consultation and advisory firm which she ran for a decade (1999-2009) prior to launching Garvey|Simon in 2010.

Liz is a member of Art Table, a professional organization dedicated to advancing the leadership of women in the visual arts, as well as a founding member of the New York chapter of the Association of Women Art Dealers. She has been the Juror for several exhibitions, including The Women’s Art Caucus and the Arkansas Fine Art Museum’s prestigious “Delta” exhibition. She has served on many panels in the industry and has been featured in Hyperallergic, Art Spiel, Wall Street Journal, The Indianapolis Star, NUVO – Indy’s Underground Art Magazine and has been interviewed for a Podcast at Art Grind. Throughout her career, Liz has placed herself at the forefront of business and social advancements, using her knowledge and networks to further the progress of the fine arts industry.

With over 30 years of experience, Liz leverages her professional relationships with artists, auction houses, private dealers, and other galleries to offer boutique art advisory services and an exhibition program championing early and mid-career artists.  Garvey|Simon’s contemporary exhibition program focuses primarily on works on paper. Although the roster ranges from hyperrealist to abstract, the artists are unified by their use of unusual materials and meticulous methodology.

An interest in circumventing the norm is at the core of Garvey|Simon’s business mission. Established with the intent of extending the reach of the New York art scene, Garvey|Simon began with a series of pop-ups in New York and the Midwest. Liz is constantly looking to identify and expand into alternative markets and collaborate with other seasoned dealers and galleries.  Liz is also very active in the secondary market, assisting clients to sell their work privately and with discretion. She also assists collectors nationwide as a private advisor and curator to establish and build art collections. She is always thrilled to help individuals purchase their first piece of fine art. Her approach is grounded, offering clients a relaxed entry into the New York art world.  Other services include: collection management/database, appraisals, framing, artist coaching and on-line platform consultation.
